            <statement>To create this dataset, the bores were collated using relevant bore information from a variety of sources: BoM (2023), DEPWS (2023), NT Government (2022) and Qld Dept (2023). They were then assessed and attributed with aquifer information using one of two methods:  1. manual attribution and 2. a new automated process.
The manual method determined the aquifer for a particular bore based primarily on information from surrounding boreholes which had been attributed during drilling and bore installation, or available from previous studies and geological mapping. This method was applied to approximately 4,000 bores and was used as a test dataset for evaluating the new automated approach. The automated method was then applied to the remaining bores. For more detail on the two methods used, refer to Appendix C in the Hydrogeology and groundwater systems of the South Nicholson and Georgina basins report (Dixon-Jain et al. 2024).

The reduced standing water level (RSWL), in units of metres relative to the Australian Height Datum (mAHD), was recorded from existing data or else calculated by subtracting the bore standing water level from the bore elevation using the 1-second national digital elevation model (Gallant et al. 2011). For bores with multiple records, the most recent water level observation was used. Groundwater levels covered the period 1891–2023, though only RSWL data post-1970 (RSWL_grid) were used in the analysis to best represent the modern groundwater system.

SWL for QLDBORES were originally supplied as negative values, and have been converted to positive values to align with NGIS2023 and NTBORES

BoreReport, StatusCons and Purpose data were acquired from DEPWS for NT bores and StatusCons and Purpose were acquired from BoM (2023) for QLD bores.
