This Proclamation asserts a 12 nautical mile territorial sea measured seaward from the territorial sea baseline, with exception of certain islands in the Torres Strait where the territorial sea limit is fixed at 3 nautical miles in accordance with the Torres Strait Treaty between Australia and Papua New Guinea.
